Organized by the Department of Tourism and the Government of Rajasthan in collaboration with the Dausa district administration, the Abhaneri Festival aims to promote the heritage and culture of the region. This grand two-day cultural extravaganza takes place in the village and features vibrant activities and captivating cultural performances. The festival celebrates the rich culture and heritage of Rajasthan, with the iconic Chand Baori step well as the focal point of the celebrations. Chand Baori, the largest step well in Rajasthan, is not only a marvel of architecture but also serves as a functional water harvesting structure. It is situated close to the Harshat Mata temple, facilitating religious rituals.
During the festival, a diverse range of cultural activities take place, including performances such as Chakri dance, Terahtali, Mayur dance, Kalbelia dance, Ghoomar, Pad Dangal, Behrupia, Kachchi Ghodi, and Bhavai. Village safaris and craft bazaars showcase the state's art forms, while street plays, Raas Leelas, and puppet shows entertain and educate visitors about the local culture. Camel carts are available for vintage-style village exploration, and craftsmen from Rajasthan get the opportunity to display their talent and participate in the festival. The Abhaneri Festival typically takes place in September/October, starting at 10 am and continuing until 5 pm. It is a remarkable festival to be a part of, adding a special touch to your India tour.
